The Mission Playhouse and Mariachi Women’s Foundation present the 4th Annual Mariachi Women’s Festival:¡Viva Veracruz!, a musical journey from Jarocho fandango to mariachi fiesta Saturday evening, March 25th at 7:30pm.
Mariachi favorites such as La Bamba and El Cascabel are songs native to Veracruz, Mexico where they are performed in a lively and danceable style known as the son Jarocho. Feel your heart beat with excitement as this year’s festival opens with traditional interpretations of these and other regional classics by Mexico’s female Jarocho ensemble Caña Dulce y Caña Brava. Las Alteñas, the finest all-female mariachi group in San Antonio, Texas and the two-time Grammy-winning Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea from Los Angeles will follow with mariachi renditions of popular songs from the Mexican state of Veracruz and will also perform your favorite mariachi songs. Special Guests include Jarocho musicians, Libby and Cindy Harding, and Japanese Mariachi Singer, Junko Seki. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience a musical journey that will take you from jarocho fandango to mariachi fiesta by women cultural artists in celebration of women’s history month.
Join us for a FREE performance before the concert at 5:00PM in the Playhouse Plaza, featuring all female mariachi youth group Mariachi Femenil Herencia, and Ballet Folklorico Raices de Mexico.
