During the Lunar New Year Festival, join us inside the Playhouse for a free jazz performance from the Alan Chan Moo-sic Group Saturday afternoon, February 8th at 3:00pm!
Composer/Conductor Chan has “given Los Angeles a jazz big band with an utterly unique tonal personality” (DownBeat Magazine). They will present a concert with exciting tunes inspired by the zodiac and arrangements of English and Chinese classics to celebrate the Year of the Rat. “The four movements of Moon Walk…are full of small and large wonders” (Mark Swed, Los Angeles Times).
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Chan’s compositions draw on elements of European classical music, American jazz, and the sounds of his heritage. “Inspired and inspiring, Alan Chan digs deep within himself to create music that transcends traditional genre…” (criticaljazz.com). The Grammy-nominated Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Millennium Jazz Orchestra (Netherlands), Taipei Chinese Orchestra and La Jolla Symphony have all presented his works.
