A unique journey crossing continents and combining cultures.
Jornada traces the origins, development and influence of Flamenco in an explosive celebration of this most passionate of artforms, combining Indian Kathak, Irish Step Dance, Ballet Folklorico, and of course Flamenco, all accompanied by music played live on stage.
Jornada is the creation of Clarita Corona (pictured left), artistic director of Arte Flamenco Dance Theatre in a unique collaboration with Shivam Arts, Máire Clerkin, and Ballet Coco de Esteban Coronado. For over 30 years, Shivam Arts has provided classical Indian Kathak dance to the community. Máire is an Irish dancer, choreographer, and teaching artist with the Music Center and Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Ballet Coco de Esteban Coronado has made numerous appearances in the Rose Parade over the last two decades.
Clarita, a dancer, teacher, and choreographer, studied with such greats of Spanish and Flamenco dance such as Jose Greco, Jose Molina, and Luisa Triana. She moved to Spain for a time to master her craft where she was mentored by Manolo Marin, Mario Maya, Juan Manuel, and Juana Amaya. In addition to establishing Arte Flamenco Dance Theatre, she founded the dance school, The Center of Worldance, and tours across the US with her dance troupe.
