Li’s Ballet presents Coppélia

November 15, 2014 @ 7:00 pm

Li's Ballet Coppelia at the San Gabriel Mission PlayhouseCoppélia takes place in a small European town a few hundred years ago. Dr. Coppelius makes life size dolls in his shop. He leaves one of them, named Coppélia, on his balcony. Coppélia looks so life like that it garners the attention of a man named Franz. Franz’s love, Swanhilda, is furious with him.

Swanhilda and her friends are curious about the mysterious Doctor and visit his shop. They find a room filled with dolls which they wind all up. Meanwhile, Franz breaks into the shop through a window determined to meet Coppélia. When Dr. Coppelius enters, everyone rushes out except Swanhilda. She enters the room where Coppélia is kept and puts on Coppélia’s clothes.

Franz tells the Doctor he wants to proclaim his love for Coppélia. Dr.Coppelius brings Swanhilda out of the closet which he thinks is his doll. When she starts dancing, he thinks his doll has come to life. Swanhilda runs out of the shop with Franz. Dr. Coppelius knew he was deceived when he finds Coppélia in her chair.

What will happen to Franz and Swanhilda? Will they reconcile?
