Kicking off our new season is a 1925 film named one of the year’s 10 best by the New York Times, Don Q, Son of Zorro, July 16th at 2:30pm. Starring the ‘King of Hollywood’ Douglas Fairbanks, it is a sequel to 1920’s The Mark of Zorro. You don’t have to have seen the original film to enjoy this action adventure drama!

Fairbanks plays Don César de Vega, the son of Zorro, who is in Spain for study and travel. While there, he gains favor with some members of the Queen’s court and falls for the General’s daughter. When framed for a crime he didn’t commit at the royal ball, the whip-wielding Don César embarks on a mission to clear his name with a little help from Zorro (reprised by Fairbanks playing dual roles).

New York Times film critic Mordaunt Hall wrote: “It is a swift picture with plenty of pleasing surprises and action…a photoplay which creates no end of mirth and sustains the interest all through…’’

Accompanying the film is organist Russ Peck. Mr. Peck currently performs at San Diego Symphony Hall/Jacobs Music Center for their silent film presentations and is house organist at San Diego’s Balboa Theatre. In addition to being an organist, he is principal timpanist for the Tifereth Israel Community Orchestra.
